brelic
The link below contains the article and the video clip.My question is: why was she fired? It was a slip up and she corrected herself. Didn't seem malicious or slanderous in ANY way. Wow, talk about hypersensitive! I would definitely file a wrongful dismissal suit over this.http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/pattisonave/TV-reporter-in-Blackhawks-sex-slip-fired.htmlWhen you work in television, you have to assume that the microphone is always live. And you can't make mistakes when you're on air. It's a tightrope, for sure. But you don't get into the business without knowing what's coming. So it wasn't too surprising that CSN Chicago fired reporter Susannah Collins after she accidentally said on live TV that the Blackhawks had "a tremendous amount of sex" during the NHL season.Collins meant to say "success," and quickly corrected herself. But it wasn't enough.Apparently, it also wasn't the first time that Collins has been linked to less-than-family-friendly activities. The Chicago Tribune took a look at Collins' history, and found this:But the mistake put a spotlight on Collins, and that quickly refocused attention on a series of raunchy YouTube videos uploaded between 2009 and 2010. As co-host of Sports Nutz, Collins pushed the boundaries of sports journalism -- and good taste -- with sexually explicit reports and potentially offensive racial stereotypes.Read more from the Tribune here. And please be careful when you're on camera. brelic
We can't make mistakes and we definitely can't talk about sex.Bunch of BS.Total over-reaction, right? Man, and then they go digging into her past? It's like that guy a few years ago that did a dead-stick landing in the Azores, and SAVED all 220 passengers aboard the Canadian charter flight. So, he's a hero for one day, then they publicly crucify him because way back in his past, he had been a bush pilot and did a few drug runs.Sure, not cool and definitely illegal. But it has NOTHING to do with the fact that the guy just SAVED all those people.

Bertmega
@brelic"Can't show bare breasts on American television... but people getting headshots? Sure, why not?"DING DING DING DING. We have a winner.I've been preaching this for years. Violence is totally acceptable in our culture, but Janet Jackson's half time t!tty is responsible, in the moral police eyes, for nearing the end of Western Civilization as we know it. A movie automatically gets an R rating if there is a glimpse of a breast...... Maybe if they'd figure out how to sensationalize sex and censor violence this country wouldn't be so f'n hostile. Oh well, another one bites the dust to over sensitive moral police.
sarsippius
I have never been able to figure out why this country's institutions are so uptight about sex. I was in Paris on a school sponsored trip in 1983, and right there in a major department store perfume counter, big color poster with even bigger bare boobs on it. To the best of my knowledge their society hasn't collapsed under the weight of such public "indecency". Here? Somebody would be getting brought up on charges or facing a civil suit from some undersexed parent claiming their children went went blind from looking at it. Phillygrump
God forbid the word sex is uttered, might be kids watching and they'll be irreparably damaged. But run all the graphic violence you can find WTFYou hear worse stuff on morning radio shows driving to work or in commercials or on any TV show. This is a sham. Her slip up was an accident. Networks and companies exploit sex and bad language and push the envelope intentionally to make money and add shock value and its no big deal. What a total shame. EDI-Flyer
I'm not a great one for the use of lawyers and frivolous suits but in this case I would say it is entirely justified. Hope she strips them bare (Oops, can't say that, might get fired) Hope she takes them to the cleaners for this.
blocker
My wife watches pornography while we're eating lunch. It's called "The Young and The Reckless", (should be the "Young and Feckless"). They manage to have scenes of couples going at it in every episode. I assume it's simulated, but I'm not sure. It doesn't offend nor interest me much. When you get to be my age, sex is just another messy household chore. My point is that if those actors can get away with such things, then why would anyone fire that kid for saying "sex"?I think somebody wanted to can her and just used this non-event as an excuse. JackStraw
It's ridiculous that she got fired for that.On a related note, there was a video on youtube a few years back (apparently gone now) of a news anchor commenting on the weather guy's forecast for the previous night. He had predicted a heavy snowfall which didn't materialize. So the next day the female anchor asks him "So Bob, what happened to that eight inches you promised me last night?"I am not making that up. hf101
Total over-reaction, right? Man, and then they go digging into her past?CSN knew about her past when they hired her. CSN was pressured by the BLACKHAWKS to dismiss Collins from covering the team. According to this blog written by Paul M. Banks when the next reporter is hired, there will be four different Blackhawks reporters for Comcast in four years. Ever since John McDonough took over the Hawks, he’s been all about message control and brand management. Josh Mora was fired (excuse me, did not have his contract renewed) because he reported something that the Blackhawks didn’t like him reporting. Mora reported that the Blackhawks knew Marian Hossa was injured BEFORE they signed him. He also reported the firing of Dale Tallon. John McDondough and his little lickspittle Jay Blunk just would not have any of that. Even though Mora was only doing his job.I'd have to dig it up but Mora probably reported on the Patrick Kane drunken weekend.CSN knew about Collins past, as those videos helped her get discovered. In an interview by Banks she stated:Well, a friend of a friend was starting a new web series called Sports Nutz which basically entailed me and another girl giving snarky sports commentary. I was making no money at all, but was happier than I had been in ages, so I kept with it. In our second season, we did an episode called “Douchebag Nation” (no joke) about belligerent college basketball fans. Deadspin picked up the video, it went viral, and the Executive Producer of Inside the NFL just happened to see it. He called me in for an interview with Showtime Sports/CBS Sports and I landed the gig.Collins firing wasn't because she said "sex" on the air, it is because the Blackhawks management and the league wants the teams controlling their product. They want their own television studios, reporters, cameras and websites.

ruxpin
Collins was fired because when Shanny reviewed the video he saw clear initial head contact. Anyone who watches the video can see clearly her head shakes significantly to her right (our left) and back (roughly the 0.14 mark). This CLEARLY indicates head contact. So, justifiably fired.
