ruxpin
I completely get the bringing someone in to pace York and give him a year to develop York in the AHL. The sad part is that going into two weeks ago, York was my sole reason to watch this team. Maybe I'll go to some Lehigh games.

At this point, I would not be shocked and would think that could fetch for fletch. That was yours truly. Well now is the time to do it. He doesn't have a contract it could depend on his asking price. But I highly doubt it.

Ha I found this tweet that was more along the lines of what I was saying... Ryan Gilbert @RGilbertSOP Keith Yandle is a low-risk, high-upside signing. Best-case scenario he's a great 3LD and PP specialist, basically a cheaper and more experienced Gostisbehere. Worst-case scenario he sits in the press box and mentors Cam York. Good guy in the room and good depth to have

Great question. If financials were equal, go with Ghost (similar skillset and younger). But it comes down to salary/cap and term. And if/when it comes to it, it's a little easier having $900k in the press box rather than $4.xxM. So, I guess, for this situation the Flyers are better off with Yandle.
flyercanuck
1 year....$900,000? I'm no Yandle fan, but this is the kind of deal a real GM would sign.
AlaskaFlyerFan
I’m OK with this signing. Yandle isn’t flashy but I think he is pretty steady. Yandle may break Doug Jarvis’ consecutive games played record this year. Actually, 3 guys may break it this year. Jarvis - 964 Yandle - 922 Marleau - 910 Kessel - 900 Edited July 27, 2021 by AlaskaFlyerFan

jammer2
IF the Flyers can afford 1 more forward after signing Sanhiem and a back up...I suggest the Yotes Michael Bunting. Made 737,000 last year, rumored to make approx 1.5 as a UFA. 25 year old late bloomer who had 10 goals in 21 games after getting called up last year. Throws a few hits a game, physical, tough to play against. Fits what they are doing. Edited July 27, 2021 by jammer2

It is crazy free agency doesn't start till tomorrow and the Flyers only have one open spot. Backup goalie. One thing is for sure this will be a new look roster. But will it win? They may win. They may not. But they are different and that means they don't suck, YET I'm excited and appreciate that Chuck is trying to make a difference where we all knew one was needed 3

Whether it works out remains to be seen. IMO this is a crucial season for Giroux in terms of whether they ee-sign him as a lifetime Flyer. If nothing else it's not boring.

I miss the days where Finns were raised to be defnesively responsible and if you were lucky you got a Sinisalo, Kapanen (Sami) or dare I say a Selanne or Kurri out of them. Hoping Laine hits 30 goals with Voracek feeding him on the power play. Don't really want either on the Flyers at this point...

I'll give it to ol' Fletch this isn't going to be the same ol' Flyers team. Ya, it looks like he's handing the reigns to Kevin Hayes. LegionOfDoom
One thing I appreciate about Fletcher materialized when I heard his interview in Snow the Goalie. Fletcher punched his classmate back in the day when the kid said his dad sucked, he punched the kid and defended his actions. He didn't back down on why he did it. Fletcher wanted to make the Flyers tougher to play against and I know the cost was up there, but the results could be well worth it.

I mean, Yandle is third overall amongst defencemen in points for the 2010s so he's got to be one of the best defencemen in the league, right? This isn't taking a guy who was making $1.2M and more than doubling his salary to be disappointing. I also don't see them looking at this as a "Niskanen replacement" as much as adding some scoring depth to the bottom four/pair. And the NTC isn't a NMC so there's flexibility there.

If he's used sparingly on the 2nd pp then fine. It might help there.

Maybe not, but he has been considered a desirable player for nearly all of that time, dare I say a "top player" in the league. 1
