Flyers sign Nate Thompson (again)

I said this in the UFA thread.

I didn't hate him the first go 'round. I did think he played too much and was played in situations where his shortcomings were exposed by high skill players.

He's a pro and should be a good influence, if a young guy takes his spot, he'll deal with it and be ready when his time comes again.

I don't mind this, I'm not excited by it either, have strong neutral to okay vibes on this.

Certainly better than I feel about rolling the dice with Mr .896 in the back-up role.

New Jersey and for 4+ aav.

I'm sure Chuck bowed out at 3.5 or less.

Wow. Hell no. Too much for a backup.

I guess we get the guy who came thru L.A. behind him.

I hope Jones can help. I will not hold the past against none of these guys.

All these one-year deals reinforce what I said after Risto.  It has the feel of 2008.  Our GM wants to change things up.  Yes, maybe we get a shot in the arm.  But are we building a core taking up the Cup.  We hope Risto works. Jones--a reclamation project who has been sub. 900 the last three seasons.  Ellis isn't one year but pray he doesn't lose it. Signing Thompson keeps a youngin off the squad.  It worries me.

This exactly Howie.   I don't understand it really unless they think nobody is ready yet.  I guess he can serve popcorn until injuries happen?

IMO, he's an insurance policy. For $800K, he won't block anybody that's able to play their way onto the roster.

It's definitely an underwhelming signing, but I think they're expected to use much of the rest of their ~$8M cap space on Sanheim and Hart.

Being charitable, they don't want to waste a top prospect with fourth line time or sitting out. That said, maybe the team motto should be:

"2021-22 Anytime, Anywhere in One Year or Less"

Bobbie brought up a good point Laczynski had hip surgery so not sure how long it could take for his recovery so as rad said insurance.

I hope he doesn't play over Bunnaman though.

But AV loves him some Nate.

Guess we'll see.

Dude - Cates Jackson is a UMINN-Duluth product and you think they're playing Bunnaman or Laczynski before him?

He's from Minnesota.

Those four games didn't make a big impression?

I'm not sure you understand - he's from Minnesota.

Ask some of our Wild friends about the implications.

I would think he is a Phantom.

But we'll let Chuckles and AV duke it out.

They can be on the undercard for Morin vs Risto!!

I would think so, too. That's how they get ya.

I would certainly prefer Echo if only for the mild amusement of the nickname.

I won't hold my breathe on it especially after I seen how much they used Nate last time.

Injuries always change things.

Off topic so when are you trading JVR I have been waiting all morning for the news to break and you've done nothing...

....my popcorn is getting stale.

Chuckles is making sure we get a great shot at Wright or Bedard in future drafts.  That is, unless he trades the picks away to bring in someone from the Wild instead.

Going to have to work hard to catch up to Seattle, Calgary and Arizona.

asking for refunds?

That will happen 20 games into the season. God forbid if Hart or one of the top dman gets hurt , Fletcher will do anything to save his job and make  even more horrible trades .
