  1. 1. Ads on sweaters - like or not?

    • I'll never buy another NHL Sweater if they have ads on them
    • Some Ads are ok although Sweaters for consumers must be Ad free

    • Ads on Sweaters will decrease my interest in watching hockey
    • I'll get used to them, but I don't like it
    • Hey if they lower ticket prices -- I'll say I luv them.

Personally, I hate the idea. I figure it will be OK at first (that's probably the advertiser's plan) and then get ramped up to Spengler Cup levels.

The only reason the NHL gives for allowing advertising on their jerseys is money. Since more advertising on the sweaters means more money, it's not a stretch to imagine having to search your team's jersey to find the actual team logo in the future. A shame I think.

Baseball (a class sport) doesn't need it, NFL footbal doesn't, NBA basketball doesn't. Why does hockey?

The only major sport I can think of that allows it, is soccer - ever seen their sweaters? They have the advertisers name on the jersey, NOT the team's. Ugly.

I hate Nascar. The crap ads all over everything is not a main reason why, but it IS a reason.

It's horribly unnecessary. And I kind of view it as an insult. I'll probably get used to it, like the ads on the boards, but just like the boards I'll never like it.

If the ads on sweater would lower ticket prices, I'd be ok with them in a *very* limited capacity, but alas, this will never happen, it will just further line the owners pockets....SO...a RESOUNDING NOOOOO!!

It is funny how opposite I am for this in Hockey and MMA.

In UFC, fighters rely on sponsor ad money to supplement their pay because, well, a lot of them only get $10000 a fight for 3-4 fights a year, unless they have incredible finishes and bonus pay, and then they have to pay for their own training camps, coaches, gym time and injuries incurred outside the ring.

For them, Dana White forcing reebok UFC jerseys on them and declaring they only are sponsored by Reebok now, is killing a lot of them less fortunate fighters.

I was fine with fighters having tons of ads on their attire.

In Hockey? Go Bugger yourself. They already make MILLIONS of dollars a year and don't need the ad revenue. Even the worst hockey player at NHL minimum makes better than 95% of UFC fighters.

We don't need ads all over Hockey Jerseys

This is what gets me, and it's only loosely similar:

I pay Comcast extra for the ability to have on demand. Yet I not only have commercials but I cannot fast forward through them. So they take my money to watch and take the money from [insert company name] to hawk their crap while I'm held hostage.

I pay $12 for a ticket to the movies and same thing. And then you go see a Jack Ass movie like Jurassic World where the commercials continue through the movie.

You pay week over $100 for a hockey ticket to see crap all over everything. Now the players themselves. Pretty soon you'll have ushers, "ma'am, please stand up so we can put a Bug Light logo on your ass."

It's ridiculous.

They should advertise on all the crap participation awards they give, too.

if it means 45 for a seat instead of 60, plaster away...if it makes no change the i'd rather they didn't

That doesn't even pay for a seat across the parking lot at Xfinity live, and that won't change when we become the Philadelphia Comcast HC Flyers

God, I hate that.

You know, to be fair, there IS a way to have ads on jerseys that aren't overly intrusive (I just happened to pick a picture of one of the worst examples)....but we ALL know...it starts out small, it will balloon from there, and next thing you know, the above pic WILL be the norm.

Here is an example of a "cleaner look" with ads.......though obviously, the precedent set here will ultimately lead to silliness, as you mentioned, they have done with the boards and even the ice surface in arenas already.

Kinda like gas prices. They balloon the thing to ridiculous levels, then lower it (though they will still be higher than they were before the inflation), THEN people will be ok with it because they are "used to it"............well, I DON'T WANNA GET USED TO CRAP ALL OVER WORKS OF ART LIKE NHL SWEATERS....DAMMIT!

And for the record, no, I would NOT buy NHL sweaters if they have ads all over them.

i don't know my chelsea kit has the samsung logo plastered on the front.

their logo is just a smallish yet stylish patch.  i imagine i'd get used to it.  i'm not wild about though,

the NHL is such an expensive ticket in philly it's a little discouraging.  if pimping the sweaters out makes for cheaper seats i won't care, though i agree that the fans will not see dime one from any of this proposed buggery.

The real shame is that NHL fans won't do anything about it. They'll just roll over and present their bottom to Gary.

It's only more revenue for the league if you keep watching the product. If you flip it off, the league will be forced to remove the ads from the jerseys.

That's what every hockey fan should do to the greatest commisioner in all of sports

I think it's inevitable, and I don't really have a problem with it, as long as it doesn't get to absurd levels. As for the "outrage" over it, people will get used to it. We got used to the shootout, which I would argue is more of a bastardization of the game than ads on jerseys. I also don't think it's going to be to the level of NASCAR or European soccer. The NHL has shown a remarkable amount of restraint when it comes to sponsorships/ads. I don't think they would just throw that out the window and put ads and sponsors all over the place.

NASCAR and sponsors go hand-in-hand to me. I love the sport and couldn't imagine seeing 43 sponsorless cars circling the track to be honest.

@BluePuk I've been hearing the NBA is talking about putting sponsors on jerseys, but I hope they avoid that.

@J0e Th0rnton I couldn't agree more. That Reebok crap has screwed up fighters that don't have the name power yet.

All in all, save the sponsor crap for sports that utilize it like Auto Racing.

Ummmm..........     ................  you mean you couldn't imagine seeing 43 custom styled cars driving around the track?  It would be the hottest thing in racing history. Every driver would have their own custom paint job on their car, 100% ad free. Some drivers would have stripes, others would keep it simple and have one color, others would have a wild artistic paint job similar to goalie masks in hockey. It would be the most outstanding and unique thing NASCAR and F1 could ever do.

I'd feel like a joke and a sell-out driving around in a car with a McDonalds "M" on it, or a Viagra logo on it. I'd feel like nobody could take what I do for a living seriously. Now if you let me paint the car my way, it gives me a sense of ownership over it, and it becomes part of my "brand" as a driver. Now when I win championships in a Ford whatever racing car, Ford can release a special limited edition Mustang with my (or similar) custom paint scheme on it. The WoW edition of the Mustang. You see what I'm saying?  :)
