This doesn't read to well to me. WTF why would a GM degrade a RHD he is trying to move??

An impact RHD is all you can say?? Nah i need more than that.

He's not the GM in Anaheim anymore, Pat Verbeek is. So I wouldn't read too much into that.

I've watched a lot of Ducks games this year, mostly to watch Leo Carlsson, but I've caught a bit of Drysdale. His skating abilities will jump out to you immediately. I find his decision making with the puck in both zones needs some work and he's not very strong on the puck. His skating can make up for some mistakes. If I were a betting man, I'd project a similar career to Cam Fowler, perhaps a bit more offense on tap.

the shoulder injury was a fluke and the core injury happens. I'm not worried about that at all.

I'm fine with that and those are the injuries that happen.

They're also Nolan Patrick's injuries.

The fact he wouldn't even take calls from the Flyers or meet with the brass? That's a punk ass move.

Doesn't bode well for the player long term as a teammate...

I hope Cutter enjoys losing in Anaheim.

I look forward to him refusing to sign in Anaheim.

Patrick also had a bad melon. If your brain is injured, that's a tough one to get over, especially when multiple concussions have caused chronic migraine issues.

Just glad Danny got to get something nice in return for him.

Kevin Hayes more likely told him "Just wait 2 more years of college and then refuse to sign with them like I did and you can just sign where ever you want because you'll be a free agent!"

People arent gonna wanna hear this but hockey is a gimmick in Philly.  It gets zero radio time and very little other press as compared to any of Eagles, Sixers, or even Phils.

Part of this has to do w how soft NHL has become and how expensive games are, but part of it - I think - is Philly just aint a good place to settle down.  Its violent and rundown w massive drug problems, major homelessness issues, and awful public schooling.  Obv a pro player isnt sending their kids to public school but most people do and thats part of the reason for the gangs, drug use, and  everything else.

Philly used to be an awesome NHL destination...those days are long gone.

thanks for your completely useless fart of a brain burp that contributes nothing to the current conversation.

Are you guys just joking around with the Hayes angle or is there reporting that Hayes talked with Gauthier? I can’t imagine why Hayes would have a bad word to say about the Flyers they were the only team at the time he was looking for his big payday with a GM stupid enough to give it to him.

Gauthier traded to Ducks by Flyers for Drysdale, draft pick

19-year-old named best forward at 2024 WJC; Philadelphia gets defenseman, 2nd-round selection in 2025

Cutter Gauthier, the No. 5 pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, was traded to the Anaheim Ducks by the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday for Jamie Drysdale and a second-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.

Gauthier has 23 points (13 goals, 10 assists) in 17 games for Boston College this season.

The 19-year-old was also named the best forward at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship, when he had 12 points (two goals, 10 assists) in seven games to help the United States win the gold medal.

Flyers general manager Daniel Briere said Gauthier expressed an unwillingness to play for them as early as last May.

“It was a long time coming,” Briere said during the first intermission of Philadelphia’s 4-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

“It's been going on for a while. We tried to give him space. We tried to get in touch with him many times; they would not communicate as far as the Gauthier side.

So, at some point we had to make a decision and we thought with what happened just a few days ago (leading scorer at WJC), this was our time to probably get the highest value.

“Not very often you get the chance to find a Jamie Drysdale that you can add to your lineup. When that came about and his name was made available, we got really excited.

The chance to add a player of this caliber to a premium position as a right-shot defenseman for a left winger just made a lot of sense, and we felt it was the right time to do it.”

Philadelphia coach John Tortorella said he was excited to have Drysdale in the fold after being asked about Gauthier's desire to play elsewhere.

“I don't know Cutter from a hole in the wall,” Tortorella said. “I'm not too interested in talking about him. I'd rather talk about Jamie; he's [the] guy that's coming here.

“… Just talked to Jamie. Watched a lot of tape on him, obviously had discussions. We're really excited about the opportunity. A 21-year-old right-handed shot, put him on the power play right away, one of [the units].

He's just starting. Kid's head's spinning right now. It's his first time at this, but we're really excited about the opportunity. I think it's a really good deal for us.”

Drysdale had five points (one goal, four assists) in 10 games with Anaheim this season. He missed 29 games from Oct. 16-Dec. 20 because of a lower-body injury.

Selected by the Ducks with the No. 6 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, the 21-year-old defenseman has 45 points (eight goals, 37 assists) in 123 NHL games.

"When I look at our system, our organization and the depth of our system, we do not have a player like this in our organization," Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek said of Gauthier. ....

"When I discussed with our amateur scouts, there's not a player like this coming, so two years down the road in his development, he should be able to come in and play in the NHL. That all went into this decision. … There's certain times when you want to shake things up, this wasn't the case.

This was a need case, in my view."

Philadelphia (20-14-6) is fourth in the Metropolitan Division; Anaheim (13-25-1) is seventh in the Pacific Division.

“We were hoping that at some point he would change his mind,” Briere said of Gauthier. “He had already changed his mind.

He looked at us at the draft and told us he was built to be a Flyer, wanted to be a Flyer, and then a few maybe months later told us that he didn't want to be a Flyer, didn't want to play for the Flyers.

So, in our mind at first, we said we have to protect him because if he changes his mind again and it's out there that he doesn't want to play, it's going to be tough for him to put the uniform on.

But when we realized that they refuse to talk to us now, it's been months, he didn't want to be a Flyer, didn't want to be in Philadelphia, it was time to make it happen.”

What a douchebag. Quitter Gauthier.

If Fletcher had half a clue he would have taken Jiricek. Of course he never had any clue...at all.

Drysdale should help the backend quite a bit...if he can stay healthy. Good trade for both teams, Anaheim gets size, but Philly wins in the IQ dept.  Looks like there won't be a rebuild in Philly. Only time will tell if they rushed into it too quick (probably)...just wish we'd have had one more shot at some high end talent.

Moving on from Cutter....

Drysdale is a top flight quality defender, first pair shut down guy, QB on the second power play. Honestly he was in the Calder convo his rookie year of a solid class. A few years are burned but the kid can flat out play. This is not a vet playing Torts system, this is a kid with tons of talent. A few years burned in Anaheim which sucks but seriously, the kid can play. Not a big kid but quick, instinctive, the offense will probably end up around 45-50 points as a peak. Health is a huge asterisk but use your eyes. The Flyers are better right now with him in the lineup.

I hope this isn't the case but the moves or lack thereof in the next month will tell us alot.

York/Sanheim

Seeler/Drysdale

Should give then the chance to move Walker now so guess we'll see.

But I think you're right they are going to go for it now and jettison the rebuild.

Now would be the best time to get the trade rebuild going.

and that is the most disappointing thing about this whole situation ....

The Flyers desperately need some high end talent and now it is imperative to get Michkov out of mother Russia.

Drysdale is high end talent. This is a great move. As for the rebuilds, it's still going to continue. Seeler, Walker, Atkinson, Laughton and Tippett are still on the club and a minimum three of those guys are going to be gone. This move doesn't change that. The deck was reshuffled.

I guess that is what happens when you select a guy that was a die hard Pens fan.

Chucky should have known that; and that he would never suit up for the team he grew up hating.

Glad DB got something in return. Now Drysdale just need to stay healthy.

I'm hoping Philadelphia can turn that around. I think that comes from the southern border. I hope Philadelphia and Pennsylvania can turn that around. Basically to get better prospects for both Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

I remember when the Flyers traded Eddie Van Impe to the Penguins. He didn't want to come to the Penguins. Something was said to him and he eventually reported to the team.

you wouldn't talk to the guy who drafted the kid?

I'm sure they talked with Pat about the kid, he's doing the deal, I'm glad they did some extra vetting.

If Bob Murray has a relationship with the player as well, why not get his input?
