doom88
Welcome home Gagne, you were missed!Man I wish I could be there, next game is a home game, and hopefully you all remember the Gagne reception when he returned as a TBL.
murraycraven
I may be showing my pro-Gags bias here, but I think this is a good move from a hockey standpoint (as opposed to just a "make the fans feel good" standpoint). Gags isn't the player he used to be but he was always one of the best two way wingers around. There are some young guys on the team that can learn from him. And his presence in the lineup will certainly bring some energy to the building (the Flyers' building that is), at least for a little while.Jack, I agree 100%... Cooter can learn a lot from Gags... Maybe Rusty is a goner now?

murraycraven
Glad to see Gagne back where he belongs I hope he retires a Flyer. Probably a great 3rd liner at this point. That being said... I've got to think that there's more coming. We don't need a winger, do we? I mean Read is out, but I'm thinking someone else gets shipped out, demoted, whatever, or there is something bigger brewing involving a winger.Brel... I think Rusty might be sent out of town. Still not sure why we signed him honestly and I have seen nothing from him...

Gagne is my other all time favorite Flyer. Rinaldo was my favorite active Flyer, but he'll have to wait on deck.

Oh, yes...Honestly, Rusty was brought in to be a 3/4 line veteran presence and he's been, IMO, perfectly OK in that role.Perfectly OK. Not great. Not horrible. OK.

Makes me wonder if he might be in better shape now than most of us have been thinking.
Phlyer1
Depth move. As long as he replaces Knuble it works for me. Now to flip Briere to Ottawa for Bishop or Lehner and another prospect and I'm happy. Mike handles the puck like it is his first time on the ice does not come close to the Knuble of old

Digityman
I think this is a good move. Last I heard is that Gagne is healthy and symptom free after his operation. While I was trying to follow the whereabouts of the Stanley Cup in La Belle Province of Quebec, I found this article from Le Soleil (the main newspaper in Quebec City). It talks about Simon Gagne's day with the Cup in Quebec City, but focuses mainly on the surgical procedure Simon went through a couple of weeks ago to remove a lump in his neck. From the way the article describes it, it sounds like this might have caused a lot of the pain that he's been experiencing over the last few years. This sounds very encouraging for Simon and his health, for the rest of his hockey career and more importantly for life after the NHL. (And obviously it would be great for us Kings fans, too.) Remember earlier this year when it was discovered that Crosby was treated for a neck injury, shortly before his comeback? I wonder if the same specialists were involved...The full French article can be found here. Here is my imperfect attempt at translating the article from French to English. La procédure pourrait être la réponse à tous les maux ressentis par le numéro 12 au cours des dernières saisons.'While his teammates were still celebrating winning the Stanley Cup a week before, Kings forward Simon Gagne went under the knife on June 18th for a procedure to remove a "tennis ball" sized lump in his neck. The procedure could be the answer to all the pain experienced by #12 over the last few seasons.'(More after the jump.)Depuis trois ans, Simon Gagné vivait avec cette masse au cou, que ni les médecins des Flyers ni ceux du Lightning n’avaient osé toucher. Ironiquement, c’est une autre blessure subie dans la même région le 26 décembre qui a forcé les meilleurs spécialistes de Los Angeles à investiguer davantage'For the last 3 years, Gagne lived with this lump in his neck that the doctors from the Flyers and Lightning did not want to mess with. Since I had been already injured, they had decided to err on the safe side and treat my injury as a concussion and perform the normal tests. After 5 months, they realized that it could be operated on, with a possibility of a 100% recovery with no other future problems. It has been 3 weeks and I feel really good, glad I did it. At the end of the day, we also got a Stanley Cup, so it’s all #1”, said the 32-year-old LW during his day with the precious trophy on Friday. Depuis l’opération, la vie du hockeyeur a littéralement changé.'The lump that was removed from Gagne was an accumulation of soft tissue caused by on-ice hits. It was likely the cause of the chronic pain experienced by Gagne, which has long been credited to concussions. After the tests taken by Gagne, it was discovered that this lump could be removed without danger. Since the operation, the life of the hockey player has literally changed.' OK.Damn Homer. So if we put him on waivers, someone will probably claim him. If he clears, we'd be on the hook for about $850,000 on the cap. He comes of the books completely if someone claims him, right? Or did they mess with that too in the new CBA?
Howie58
Greetings:This one doesn't make sense to me unless there is reckoning of future years at much lower cap hit. He is "only" 33--what's left in the tank is anyone's guess. I can't see much of a short-term jolt for this...he has no goals in 11 games. Per General McAuliffe at Bastogne: "Nuts." flyercanuck
Always liked Gagne. Can't say I've seen him play this year. I hope this was actually a hockey move, and not another typical "Wheels on the bus go round and round" Flyers recycle move. Oh ya, we don't do that anymore. brelic
Bob McKenzie@TSNBobMcKenzie Scouting report on Simon Gagne: As healthy as he's been in long time, still miles on the tread but not suited to play Darryl Sutter hockey. That's good to hear... RonJeremy
Getting Gane for a 4th isnt a bad move, but we have given up the most goals in the Eastern conference, and we have no one to rush the puck, So where and how do we get s top defenseman. JackStraw
Another factor in this, McGinn is out for at least two weeks with a fractured orbital bone:http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/frequentflyers/Flyers-reacquire-Gagne-from-Kings.html

Someone is going to have to give up a spot for him... Knuble? McGinn?I would certainly sit Knuble, pending what Gagne has in the tank. At least Gags was on an NHL team this season. Nothing against Knuble, but he really hasn't shown very much (IMO) while being put into positions to show something (which I don't think Rusty's necessarily gotten). With the short schedule, having a guy to rotate in that can potentially play on virtually every line isn't a bad asset to have.Let's see what Gags brings. jammer2
Glad to see Gags back, don't know what he will bring, but if they were going to go out and get a vet additon for cheap, Gags is a good choice....I think.

Unfortunately McGinn just lost his roster spot this season. I had heard in a pre-game discussion prior to that fight which broke his face that McGinn probably wouldn't finish the season with the Flyers. This f'kin' GM for real? He ever watch what other teams in the NHL do to build a franchise?
