Are the Flyers this Year's Biggest Disappointment?

Greetings:

I grew up in Vineland, NJ, not too far from Philly.  At the time, the paper was known as the Vineland Times Journal.  Now it's the Daily Journal.  Every blue moon I go online to see what's up.  Today, I saw the following article:

https://www.thedailyjournal.com/story/sports/pro/2021/04/09/flyers-most-disappointing-team-season/7146530002/

I agree with this assessment.  The last decade has been disturbing and as we've been saying for months, this year's squad is barely watchable.  Fans have a right to be angry and CF/Comcast have a lot of soul searching in coming weeks and months even if we miraculously make the playoffs.

Biggest disappointment to whom?  To me?  Yes.

Actually, it's neck and neck with "The Society" being unexpectedly cancelled by Netflix because of production delays due to COVID.

All I can say is, replacing Niskanen with Gus, Braun or whatever their plan was...did not work. Their (i.e., Fletcher, Holmgren) inability to see that right away, and be able to think, pardon the pun "on the fly" is staggering organizationally and completely unacceptable. Once they saw their defense struggling..it was time to start parting with one or so of their precious prospects and make a move to bring an IMPACTFUL very good to great defenseman or even two in here. When I have said Club Med, in the past I meant it. Too many underachieving, too well compensated players here. This organization reeks of stubbornness and nepotism, without ANY accountability and I'm tired of it. It makes me miserable as a fan. I guess I'll root for the Avs the rest of the way for this season. The team needs a kick in the pants AT THE TOP of the disorganization, maybe at the gate. Hopefully, they see what they really are, and make the necessary changes, as CoachX states well.

I mean, really, raise your hand i if you thought either the Braun and Gus signing were anything more than complete knee jerk idiocy.

Anybody? Anybody?  Buehler? Buehler?

Voodoo GMing.

A rational organization leadership would see this year as confirmation of a deep-seated structural problem that has spanned a decade+ and multiple coaches and GM's. Dave Scott may be more activist than we give him credit for. He canned Hexy.  There may be more to come.

Is it Dave Scott that's the problem?

Which worries the hell out of me. He could be like one of those..."I don't need to know, what I don't know" types. I hope so very much I'm wrong.

That could very well be the case. I hope someone has enough true respect for the fanbase, to rat him out...if he is.

The Flyers may not be a Universal Studios in terms of moneymaking, but it is an important asset in their base of operations.  I can't say he is part of the solution or problem.  But the Forbes value on franchises tells me Comcast should be concerned.  We used to be a perennial top 5 and grow.  Now we are seven with declining value:

You and I never saw ads for season ticket sales--they didn't have to advertise. Now the games are chock full (along with gambling stuff).  I've gotten calls for them on the basis of my once-a-year attendance on Black Friday while visiting family.

I hope that ownership sees a deep problem.  We are neck-and-neck with the Leafs for Cup draught. They look a poop load closer, and that really scares me......

He already is.

What we need is for him to stop playing with himself and lean to play some damn hockey.

I don't think so can he....i mean he should want what we want a deep Cup run anything less than that should be a failure to him too.

So when and how does it all change??? I really really hope someone somewhere up in the high castle is putting together a plan to get them out of this horrid mess they have perpetuated this year.

There are some good pieces on the team but it needs a major overhaul.

The need more grit, sandpaper and more guys who can actually get the black saucer thingy in the net thingy.

A good offseason can turn it in the right direction but it will take bold moves...i hope Chuckles has the stomach for what his job is required for him to do. It's not personal it is just business.

Then it might come down to...the fans disassociating themselves from attending games, getting Comcast...or anything else ....heavily or significantly attached to the Flyers, down to the betting and casinos. Money, and the lack thereof, talks. The stuffed corporate suits can't make up for all of it. Paint an image. * I just want to add, I hope it doesn't come down to that.

actually no because i knew the leadership wasnt going to step up because it's just what they are for the last 10 years and lack of moves bothered me but i guess fletch wanted to see if this team was the real deal before he made any changes and since it's not the case, changes will be made.

after watching the wild with the players that he drafted on that team, i have alot of confidence that fletch will get this team back into contention, alot of it depends on how much retooling it needs because if hextall's picks are complete duds it could really set this team back for maybe 5 years, hopefully not and that's if he can get rid alot of hextall's players this year and next year and how many fast fletcher's drafted players can play on this team.

It’s Systemic Incompetence , as soon as the corporate douchebags got involved it’s been all down hill. Snider was a rich owner but first and foremost, he was a hockey fan and cared about winning and was willing to do whatever it took. You think that bald bastard Dave Scott ever watched a game in his life.

Yes?

This was/is a tough division, so playing tight games with Boston and the Islanders or Pens was to be expected.

Losing and looking lost & disinterested to NYR,NJD, and BUF is the symptom I find most concerning.

Watching NYR's 6 good players or NJD's 3 good players embarrass the Flyers on the regular isn't what anyone expected.

A full year's worth of miscalculation by the FO has wasted another season.

I don't think all the players suck, but only 2 are difficult to play against regularly.

Weight room and bullying classes are needed.

Our guys get pushed off the puck too easily and they allow opponents to hang out in scoring areas with zero consequences, and they don't block shots either.

This year's version of the team has been a huge disappointment.

Hey Howie,

This is so true!  They sucked me in after I got done golfing yesterday afternoon and I caught the third period.  Along with that are the commercials for tickets for today's game.  With only so many thousand able to attend, I would think that Concast would be taking note at the ticket availability this late.  As much as I hate Concast, and wouldn't shed a tear if they lose money in this venture, it makes me so sad for the team.

I think they need wakeup calls all around!!!

Buffalo is probably #1 most disappointing.

I think the Flyers were a little too good last season for what they were. This season's drop off is more of a correction. Although under normal circumstances, I think you would be one of those bubble playoff teams fighting for the last spot.  To me, that's where the Flyers are. A .500, middle of the pack team. Far from the bottom, but also far from the top.  :)
