Tell Hart to pack his bags leaving town at midnight.

Handing over the reigns to a guy who's never done that job in the NHL before...there couldn't be a more Flyer way of doing it.

Philadelphia Flyers Submit Ivan Fedotov’s Contract Should Be Tolled

JULY 30, 2023 AT 7:27 PM CDT | BY JOSH CYBULSKI 2 COMMENTS

TSN hockey insider Darren Dreger is reporting that the Philadelphia Flyers and the NHL have submitted to the International Ice Hockey Federation that goaltender Ivan Fedotov’s contract with the Flyers should be tolled since he missed this past season to complete military service in Russia. The Flyers along with the league are arguing that because he missed the entire season, the original one-year contract he signed in May 2022 should not be considered expired until next July, since he never fulfilled the agreement. The IIHF is presently considering the submission. The word tolled is a legal term written into many sports contracts that allows for the pausing or delaying of the running of the period of time set forth by a contract.

It’s been quite the saga for the 26-year-old netminder that began over a year ago. Fedotov was arrested in Russia two months after signing his contract with the Flyers. He served a year of military service and on June 14th of this year, the Flyers announced that the one-year deal would be applied this upcoming season and they would retain his NHL rights. Shortly after that in early July, the KHL announced a two-year deal for the netminder with CSKA that was recognized by the league because they believed that Fedotov did not have a valid and binding contract with an NHL club for next year.

While Fedotov is stuck between two leagues wondering what his future will be, CAA Sports’ JP Barry issued a statement today saying that he had spoken with Fedotov and that the young netminder would abide by the IIHF’s ruling that will decide which of the two contracts is valid. It’s an unusual and difficult situation for a player that has said that he just wants to get back to playing hockey. Fedotov has stated publicly that he was able to play hockey twice a week during his military service, but that the hockey in the army wasn’t very good. Fedotov has also defended his decision to sign was CSKA saying that they are a top club and would give him an opportunity to return to form before fulfilling his dream of playing in the NHL.

From the Flyers’ perspective, they would obviously welcome the addition of Fedotov to their goaltending depth chart. The club made Fedotov their seventh-round pick back in 2015, and while it has been almost a decade since they drafted him, they’d seen enough from him to warrant an entry-level contract last year. Now, the Flyers and the league are in a battle that could set a precedent going forward since the KHL and NHL don’t currently have any kind of Memorandum of Understanding. The two leagues did have such an agreement up until last year which kept teams from poaching signed players out of the other league, however, the NHL suspended the agreement.

Wait a minute you said you wanted to blow it up.

You said you want to get close to the top 3 worse so you get a stud in the draft.

Well then Hart can be a part of the movement then for the right price.

No where anywhere here did someone say just trade the man just to trade him.

But for the right return as @BobbyClarkeFan16 had laid out somewhere around these parts the exact reason why you would trade him.

Make him available BLOW IT UP!!!

Whoa!   The first definition.   So, "for whom the bell tolls" makes so much more sense now!   Duh!

If Briere and company believe that they're five years away from being actively competitive (not just qualify for the playoffs, but compete for a Stanley Cup), then I think you have to move Hart, especially if there's a glut of goaltending in the pipeline.  However, we're all forgetting the long standing Hockey Canada/NHL investigation with regards to the assault that took place in 2018. If Hart was one of those guys, his value immediately diminishes and he'll be suspended indefinitely. The Flyers are in a bit of a pickle.

As for Fedotov, if the IIHF rules in favour of the Flyers, he goes to Lehigh Valley for 15 to 20 games to get rust off his game and adjust to North American rinks. By then, the Flyers should know whether they have a legitimate goaltender or if they have the second coming of Niko Hovinen.

I can't see Russia - the KHL having ruled for CSKA - letting him leave.

And I don't see him leaving for a year to play half a season in Allentown.

Moreover, if the Flyers get their one year with a guy who has been playing glorified beer league competition twice a week for the past year, I don't know that I want to commit to him being on the NHL roster full time.

There's no way in H E double hockey sticks that I'm trading Hart unless Fedotov is on North American soil, is willing to sign an extension, and stays away from tall buildings and, well, windows in general.

I'm all in on blow it up. Same with trading Hart for the right price. I'm not in on giving away assets, a la Chuck Fletcher. Which is what "Tell Hart to pack his bags leaving town at midnight" sure sounds like to me.

Dear gawd what taking so long to tell us?

I Hart isn't one who gets axed.

There's little chance any suspension holds.  Canada's police/DA made zero charges so how in the **** the league thinks its capable of issuing consequences when law enforcement couldn't - beats me.

Guaranteed NHLPA appeals and they'll win.  Bettman drunk on his Coyotes nonsense again.

I suspect it means at least one of them is a bigger name and thus they are reluctant and unwilling to a degree to just announce it.

Also, have heard that Hart will be traded following this investigation.  Dont know if a suspension would effect a trade but have seen multiple reports (old ones now so maybe not relevant) that Hart trade done but clubs awaiting the imvestigation (for PR purposes possibly).  Again the reports are now weeks to months old so maybe no longer accurate

Also, I'm totally open to trading Hart to EDM and taking Campbell back so long as we get Broberg and maybe a conditional 1st/2nd

The goal is to NOT win games for at least this season since neither Gauthier or Michkov are here.  Not evej guaranteed Foerester will be w the team, nor Bonk.  Tank hard this year for another solid pick.  We'll have 1 year of Peterson left with a good reliable backup in Campbell who can always start in a crunch

I think Ersson will be better than both of those stiffs.

In fact I'll be knocked over by a feather if Peterson makes the opening night roster.

He's been atrocious.

I don't need a goalie back in any deal for Carter Hart.

I would want a quality centerman prospect (doesn't everyone) or a can't miss middle pairing defender and a high draft pick.

They can keep Campbell.

ymmv.

Kind of what you'd want to get in the top 3 of the draft...got to do something if you want to compete with the professional tanking organization like the Ducks, Jackets and Blackhawks.

Let's assume for a minute that the Flyers know whether Hart is one of the players to be identified (because Hart knows and has told them). Would they not have traded him already if he was on the list?

Still takes 2 to tango ..... need to find a willing participant and I am sure DB will want to maximize the return.  However .... you do make a very good point.

They shouldn't trade Hart, unless they get a star in return. By recent Flyer logic, this whole thing...unless Carter Hart has actually asked for a trade, can only mean one thing: They're going to trade Samuel Ersson. :bigteeth:
