Ice girls

I'll stop talking now as it's clear that I am in the minority of the minority and I've only dug myself in deeper -- the old open mouth, insert foot effect.  Definitely not going to argue or debate an issue that really -- while it's fun/interesting to look at from a human interest/societal/role-responsibility perspective -- in the grand scheme of things, doesn't mean or add a whole lot, if anything, to the game of hockey, itself, as a sport.  :D

I have much more important things to boo, such as Santa Claus lack of a Stanley Cup in my lifetime or boneheaded opposing fans acting like fools in our building!

I was certain that your sentence was going to end that way.

But they're not being sold as eye candy. If they were, and considering it's mostly men at the games, that would be a little embarrassing/bizarre/politically correct.

of course they're sold as eye candy - and good for them. What is so terrible about a "mandatory jiggle test" as the MJ article boo-hooed about? Models have to look good to fashion editors...Ice Girls' T&A has to look good. O the humanity!

On the other hand this -

"The Flyers women had professional makeup people and hair stylists, but they made significantly less money (than the Los Angeles Kings) —$50 for about seven hours of work on game day"

is pretty embarrassing for the Flyers (comcast). And keeping the girls out in 20-degree weather for 7 hours in short-shorts...wtf is that about do they really need to train outdoors? (unless this ice girl was b.s.ing the author)

Until I saw the Laughs logo, I originally thought this was the Ottawa Police Officer in the Dirty Mitts 2014 scandal ;)

LOL....I just spit up my drink laughing at that.

I guess we should call it Butt & Dirty Mittgate from now on. :)

Out of curiosity, can a self-respecting woman do something like this?

I don't think I'd want my girlfriend, wife or daughter doing something like this....not that I have kids, but if I did, this would not be high on my list of things for her to do...lol.

Good point. I have a little girl and as a dad, I wouldn't want to see her do something like that.

But on the other hand, those girls work very hard to maintain their bodies. It takes a lot of dedication, training, and an impeccable diet. Anyone who can do that has my respect. There's nothing wrong with being proud of what you accomplished with your body and showing it off.

I wouldn't want my daughter to do it because - if I believe the MJ story - they're getting minimum wage while freezing their asses off and are generally treated like crap. But those girls are knockouts and there's not a damn thing wrong with that!   :-) I hope they will organize themselves and get comcast, other owners to pay them a professional wage.

The Ice Girl Saga Continues

A report from a Crossing Broad "source" says the Flyers may have reached out to the former Ice Girls to get the band back together. This after the preseason opener saw the new all male ice crew get mercilessly booed at every stoppage of play.

As far as we can tell, this rumor is of the "friend of a friend told me" variety and probably doesn't hold much merit. But we'll drop the quote in here anyway for you Philly hopeful still pining for some Ice Girls.

… she said she was contacted by the flyers about possibly putting the team back together real quick…

The organization heard the fans and heard them loud and clear. Nothing official yet but I would say seeing the ice girls in 2014-15 is a distinct possibility.

People need to boo louder next game.

A return of the Ice Girls would be an abrupt change for the Flyers organization after only ONE game of hearing the boo birds. If they do bring them back so quickly, you can be sure the Flyers never cancelled them out of some superior moral conviction. This was about saving face in August after some bad press and its about saving face now after even more bad press.

At this point, we just want this story to be over and done so we can get back to Flyers hockey. 14 days everybody...14 days until puck drop for the regular season and meaningful hockey again.

I'm talking about the men. The other poster stated what self-respecting man would do this and I questioned why he felt this way, because it's not as if the guys are skating around dressed like extras from Magic Mike.

Good, I hope they are back. Sure it's sexist and objectifying, but it's also a job in entertainment. Hopefully the Flyers treat them a bit better as far as working conditions are concerned.

It's also harmless. On the sexist and objectifying scale, it's very minimal.

I agree. If they are being treated poorly, I'm not ok with that at all.

For real?  You think what they are wearing and doing is indicative of a lack of self esteem or pride? We're not talking about porn here.

The question was directed at @OH1FlyersFan's statement that no self-respecting man would do this. I was curious if he thought that a self-respecting woman could.

I know what you said and who you were saying it to. My question was based on just that.

Were you asking me the question?

For real?  You think what they are wearing and doing is indicative of a lack of self esteem or pride?

If so, I'm not sure where you got the impression that those were my beliefs in any way.

My question was asked without judgment or evaluation @OH1FlyersFan just to better understand his position and where he's coming from.
