ZeZel25 Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Not liking the 4.1 a year. I'd be a lot happier with around 3, or less Quote
flyercanuck Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 I'm ok with that contract. He's played well for the most part. It's only 3 years. He's still RFA so his best days should be ahead of him. Quote
JackStraw Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Seems pretty fair. I would have liked something like 4 x 3.75, because I think he is legit. But I can live with this. 1 Quote
mojo1917 Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 The deal is not a cap killer in anyway. If he plays well, no one will care. 1 Quote
doom88 Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 This figure in a larger cap, based on rumors and projections, is fair. He's been better than a lot of recent Flyer goalies, but he hasn't been a Flyer for a year. And I'm slightly nervous he could be a flash in the pan, again. I hope the best though. Quote
flyercanuck Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 This deal should be a lot better with a rising cap, young forwards developing along and most importantly, IF Holmgren can improve the defence. Quote
sekkes85 Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Great deal, guy has been worth every penny since he has arrived and has been the brightest spot on this team. He has kept us in games we had absolutely no right in being in and has stolen a few in the process. Quote
DaGreatGazoo Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Cap goes up. NO NMC/NTC and it's a bridge deal to even bigger money if he plays well. Given his play in Philly and his apparent turnaround; that's a good deal by Homer. Cash may be a bit high, but with cap increasing, I don't have an issue. Quote
PhilsFanDrew Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 I like it. 3 years is perfect, it shows committment that he is the starter going forward but leaves him incentive to play for a bigger deal since he is young. Comparing to other past deals as far as money goes is irrelevant. As others said the cap is anticipated to go up and when it does it so does the market price. Quote
ruxpin Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 This is a good deal IMO, and right in line with what done if it's were saying in the shoutbox Quote
brelic Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Nice deal. Happy for Mason. Now, let's hope he pitches a shutout tonight to show his appreciation. I'm starting him in my FHL. Quote
flyercanuck Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Heeeeyyyyyyy........NO NTC!!!!!! Baby steps Homer....baby steps. 1 Quote
OccamsRazor Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 3 years, 12.4 million. I can live with this deal a nice bridge deal till Stolarz is ready.....great for both sides. Quote
nossagog Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 I think that fair in both directions for you guys. Mason is a solid goaltender. For three years, that's not bad. And not having a NTC in the contract, if it doesn't work out he'd be easier to move. Quote
yave1964 Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Perfect length and term. When Mason's agent started that nonsense about Mason being in the same class as Carey Price I was thinking, well 6 mill a year, as much as I like Mason and think his getting away from Columbus will resurrect his career I figures five years, 6 mil a year would be the asking price. Got the deal that works well for both team and player, Mason can put the distraction aside and concentrate on goaltending and the Flyers have a potential tip top goalie locked up at a reasonable rate. So refreshing to after just watching Bryz carry another 1 nothing shutout into the 3rd again to start the collapse giving up a shortie to lose 3-2 in OT...man i'm so glad that bum isn't in Philly no more!!!!!!!!!!!! pilldoc Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 agree with everyone else......fair deal and I am quite ok with it.Not a Homer deal by any stretch of means. 1 Quote
jammer2 Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 A fair deal for both sides. It's *so* refreshing to have a quality goalie in the nets for Philly. It's been decades since we could count on a guy to be respectable and actually steal the odd game. This should be rewarded....and it was. With the cap going up and up...this deal will actually be a steal for Philly. Lots of teams pay a LOT more for a lesser quality goalies. The length shows some appropriate prudence by Homer, and takes into account Mason's propensity for up and down play for the Blue Jackets. The lack of a NTC shows some growth by Homer as a GM, pre Bryz, he would have locked up Mason for his entire career with a NMC based on this years stats, so he is learning from previous mistakes. A big relief to have a goalie we can count on for 4.1 a year, very nice. Quote

ruxpin Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Just throwing absurdity out there: Holmgren 's first reasonable contact in terms of length and amount and without a NMC/NTC is also the first contact without Luukko. Coincidence? Quote
